Seoul city sent an emergency alert to its residents to prepare for a possible evacuation after South Korean
military reported that North Korea has fired a projectile southward what it claims to be a ‘space launch vehicle’ on Wednesday May 31, 2023.
Seoul city sent an alert at 6:41 a.m.for the awareness of the residents to prepare for any evacuation to under-
ground shelters in relation to the North's launch of a projectile.
The interior ministry sent a text on mobile at 7:03 a.m. to informing the residents that earlier warning was a
false alarm.
Oh Se-hoon, Seoul city Mayor apologized for the confusion but said “he doesn't think sending the emergency alert was a mistake.”
Earlier, the Joint Chiefs of Staff announced the launch of North Korea’s "space launch vehicle" without
elaboration.
The North Korea has notified Japan and the International Maritime Organization of its plan to launch a sate-
llite between May 31 and June 11.
