two-day Summit from 15 to 16 November themed 'Recover Together, Recover Stronger'. The conference
could possibly see US President Joe Baiden, Indian PM Modi Narender and Chinese president Xi Jinping
interacting each other. Modi and Xi interact one-on-one since the Galwan border clash in June 2020. In the
list of firsts, US President Biden met with his Chinese counterpart Xi for the first time since taking office. Their meeting came amid a time of uncertainty and increased tensions between the superpowers.
However, the leaders of two superpowers (US & China) met face-to-face and discussed on the war in Ukraine, military tension in the Taiwan Strait and North Korean missile tests.
Biden said he and xi were "very blunt with one another." Xi, according to his spokesperson, viewed the
meeting as "in-depth, candid and constructive." "Do I believe he's willing to compromise on certain issues?
Yes," Biden told reporters afterward about his meeting with Xi.
On the sidelines of the G-20 Summit, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a quick pull-aside with US
President Joe Biden, where they talked about Ukraine and exchanged greetings with Chinese President Xi
Jinping on Tuesday.
A press release issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said Modi met Biden on the “margins” of the G20 leaders’ summit, where they “reviewed the continuing deepening of the India – US strategic partnership
including cooperation in future oriented sectors like critical and emerging technologies, advanced computing, artificial intelligence, etc.”
Later, Modi and Xi “exchanged courtesies at the conclusion of the dinner”, said official sources, but no more
details were shared.
“Facing significant global challenges, the Leaders discussed how the G20 continues to demonstrate its
collective capacity to bring together major economies to advance sustainable and inclusive growth in our
economies and beyond, tackle the ongoing climate, energy, and food crises, strengthen global health
architecture and promote technological transformation,” said the US statement.
The previous G20 presidency was held by Italia, Rome with duration 1 December 2020 to 20 November 2021.Indonesia holds the G20 presidency from 1 December 2021 to 30 November 2022 this year. India will assume the G20 presidency on 1 December 2022 from Indonesia at the closing ceremony of the annual gathering
and will convene the G20 Leaders’ Summit for the first time in India 2023.
