뉴스노믹스 전상천 기자 | 지난 8일 시작된 하와이 마우이섬 대형 산불이 사흘째 확산 일로인 가운데 10일(현지시간)까지 당국이 파악한 화재 사망자 수가 53명으로 늘었다. 마우이 카운티는 웹사이트에 게시한 보도자료에서 이날 오후 1시 10분 기준으로 17명의 사망자가 추가로 확인됐다고 밝혔다. 전날 밤 집계한 36명에 더해 17명이 추가되면서 전체 사망자 수는 53명으로 급증하는 등 피해는 계속 늘어날 전망이다. 앞서 지난 8일 오전 0시 22분께 마우이섬 중부 쿨라 지역에서 처음으로 신고됐던 산불은 오전 6시 37분께 서부 해변 마을 라하이나 인근으로 번지면서 또다른 산불로 신고됐다. 한때 라하이나에서 발생한 불은 조기집압되는 듯 하다가 하와이 인근을 강타 한 허리케인이 몰고 온 강풍을 타고 오후에 다시 살아나 삽시간에 해변 마을을 덮쳤다. 또 중부 쿨라 지역 인근 서쪽 해안인 키헤이 지역에서도 추가로 산불이 발생해 마우이섬에서 모두 3건의 산불이 확산되고 있다.

외국인 노동자 집단 괴롭힘…고용부 "즉시 기획감독 착수"
