The Republic of Korea and the United Kingdom marks the 140 years of diplomatic ties between the two
nations simultaneously commemorates the 140th anniversary of diplomatic ties as well as the 70th anni-
versary of the armistice this year 2023 that evaluate the development of solidarity between the both countries.
South Korean foreign Minister Park Jin attended the coronation ceremony of King Charles III and a reception
for the 140th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Korea and the United Kingdom hosted by the British
Embassy in Korea on Wednesday May 3, 2023.
Minister Park, in his congratulatory remarks congratulated the British monarch on the coronation ceremony
held after 70 years, and hoped that King Charles III would bring good influence to British society based on his special interest in culture, art, climate change, and the environment.
He appreciated the rapid development of ROK-UK relations through active high-level exchanges, including
summits, visits by the ROK leaders to Britain, and foreign ministers' visits to Korea since the inauguration of
the Yoon Seok-yeol administration.
Further, Park assessed that cooperation between the two countries is expanding to a wide range of fields,
including space, nuclear power, and cyber security, based on the "Bilateral Framework for Closer Cooperation" adopted at the summit last year in June last year.
In addition, he expressed his commitment to faithfully implementing the framework with hope to further
develop future-oriented cooperation between the two countries.
The logo commemorating the 140th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Korea and the UK was created
using the Korean flag and the British flag (Union Jack).
South Korea and United Kingdom ministries of Foreign Affairs are planning variety of exchange events to
mark the 140th anniversary of diplomatic ties this year.
